ARTIST BIO

I am an abstract mixed media artist based in Washington, DC. Being the daughter of a foreign service officer and living in the Philippines and Indonesia, working in a refugee camp in Zimbabwe and traveling extensively to over 30 countries has left an indelible impression on me. Experiences from growing up, working and traveling overseas have always been my strongest source of inspiration.

Exploring the intersection of man and nature and how humans impact the natural world.  I try and show the beauty and ugliness that exists in our culture and world. This dichotomy can be found in everything and is essential to our survival and possibly to our destruction. This type of narrative can be found in all of my work along with cultural nods and decorative elements. I mostly hope my work inspires personal reflection and invites individual interpretation and feelings. I love to hear what other people see in my work.

Inspirations and themes that run through my work are: social issues, travel, nature, biology, shells, plants, trees, maps, war, earth, water, wind, fire, desert, spirituality, patterns, color, archaeology, culture, patterns, environment, extreme climate, population, sustainable development, farming, resources, refugees, floods, drought, scars, evolution and natural selection.

My work is mixed media and may include: acrylic & spray paint, watercolors, collage, glass beads, drawing (pen, pencil), ink, encaustic, scraping, burning, sewing, yarn, crochet, quilting and found objects.
